Metal solutions

Jos van den Bersselaar BV has specialised in the manufacture and installation of high-quality constructions in steel, aluminium and stainless steel for more than half a century, for (food) industry clients and for utilities, infrastructure, water purification and offshore clients. Our product offering ranges from stairs, platforms, balustrades, cover hatches, railings and canopies to sound barriers and bridges.

We work closely with the client during each phase of the process. From the initial calculations, design and engineering to fabrication and installation, our aim is to do things smarter, cheaper and more efficiently. For instance, we always look at ways to improve on the initial specifications and drawings. Or, if possible, we will suggest better-value alternatives. And we enjoy allowing clients, designers, architects and contractors to benefit from our knowledge and experience.

We combine old-fashioned craftsmanship with high-tech tools, such as 3D modelling and computer controlled cutting and welding. This is how we achieve the best possible results for the best price and deliver value to our clients.

Our working methods

Jos van den Bersselaar Construction doesn’t just deliver steel, but smart steel solutions. We work closely with our clients on every project, to see if we can do it smarter, better or cheaper. From the quotation and calculation stage to the moment that our skilled employees complete the installation. This is how we achieve the best possible results for the best possible price and deliver added value to our clients at every stage. Below, we provide a step-by-step overview of the process, from initial quotation right up to completed installation.

Calculation and quotation

Our calculator draws up a budget based on the architectural drawings, specifications and conditions. This budget forms the basis of our final quotation. We try to include as much detail as possible in each quotation. Where possible, we stick to the client's specifications to give our clients the best possible service. We also check your plans against the Building Decree and may suggest alternatives, savings or technically superior solutions at this time. Finally, we provide you with a detailed and no-obligation quote, in which the installation costs are always listed as a separate item. The unavoidable 'small print' is also included in our quotation. After all, we also need to stick to our own terms and conditions of delivery, which we would be happy to send to you free of charge on request.

Engineering and workshop drawings

Once a quotation has been accepted, the project leader takes over from the calculator. From this point on, the project leader is the person responsible for ensuring that the contractual agreement runs smoothly. He does this until the project is delivered and the invoice sent. But first the engineering phase is initiated. This means that the project leader starts working on the workshop drawings, together with a draughtsperson/engineer and in close consultation with you, the client. These drawings are almost always produced using Tekla 3D drawing software. The drawings are sent to the client for approval and, once approved, they are checked numerous times to ensure the correct amount of concrete is used for that particular job.

Project management

As previously mentioned, our project leader is at the heart of this process. He is responsible for the planning, drawings, finance and co-ordination with client, architect, engineering agency and all other parties involved in the construction process. The project leader is also the person that the client usually sees on site, who attends construction meetings and who makes sure that work progresses according to schedule. He also plays a co-ordinating role during installation, checks safety issues and ensures that he is kept up-to-date on production progress at the factory.

Production

The actual production takes place in workshops that are physically separated: Aluminium and stainless steel are processed in separate buildings. The production is supervised by production leaders who are in turn managed by our head of production. Every Friday, we have a planning meeting to ensure a smooth production process when various orders are being processed at the same time. During these meetings, we finalise the weekly planning schedule. The welding technicians are closely involved in the production process and have their own co-ordinator to oversee matters such as quality and HSE, and make any necessary adjustments.

Preservation

This is actually the riskiest phase for steel constructions. A good paint or zinc coating is extremely important, since our products are mostly installed outdoors and situated in public spaces. This is why we outsource the preservation treatments to reputable specialists with whom we have been doing business for years. These specialists also need to supply us with written assurances that they will meet our client's expectations. Our clients increasingly ask for guarantees for the paintwork and coatings, and justifiably so. We carry out our own quality control at our suppliers, so we can guarantee our clients products of impeccable quality.

Transport

Once the products have been treated for preservation they are delivered to the building site. Our products are usually delivered by truck and unloaded and/or installed using a truck-mounted crane. We try to prevent damage to the preservation system by screwing steel railings onto racks, for example.

Installation

Our own engineers install the products in the concrete or foundations once they are delivered on site. Naturally, this always takes place in consultation with the construction management and in compliance with local health and safety regulations. Our engineers are Dutch speakers and are trained to give our clients total peace of mind. You will find that they are very approachable!
