The station island is the island on which Amsterdam Central Station with the station square is located. This artificial island has been around since 1889 and was due for renewal in the early 2000s.
The station was expanded and partly renewed and the tunnel for the North / South line was also built. The elevator shafts, windshields, balustrades, seating furniture and stairs have been built by Bersselaar Constructie. However, the most striking work of art has been the supervisory office. This remarkable building, elevated above the platform, overlooks all bus stops.
