Rotterdam Central Station is an important transport hub, which has undergone a total transformation in recent years into an area with international allure. The reason for this transformation was insufficient capacity of the old station. In 2010, the station was used by approximately 110,000 travellers per day. With the introduction of the HSL (high-speed line) and Randstadrail, the number of travellers is expected to rise to 323,000 per day in 2025. King Willem Alexander opened Rotterdam Central Station on 13 March 2014. The construction of the new station area took nine years and cost € 633 million.
