Driebergen station exists since July 17, 1844. After a complete demolition and re-built in 1962, the station served for decades until 2017. The intensity of which the rail was used ensured, among other things, that a level crossing right next to the station was closed 28 minutes per hour. This was one of the reasons to upgrade the station thoroughly.
Bersselaar Constructie was asked to deliver all the steelwork for the new station. Among which where stairs, handrails, bus shelters, platform roofs, platform girders and an elevator shaft. A bicycle / pedestrian bridge of 30 meters free span was also included in the lot.
The challenge for us lay in the precise dimensions of the platform girders. These twelve girders of 21 meters long weighing 11 tonnes each had to be precisely attached to the concrete prefab rail deck. The entire platform currently is now resting on this construction.
